Capacity Building Programs:

SEWA’s capacity building programs fall into two main areas: vocational and capacity building training. Specific programs in these areas are as follows:

A. Vocational Training

Vocational programs are designed to help women’s financial security and self-reliance by increasing their capacity in traditional and non-traditional skills. By upgrading women’s existing skills, SEWA’s vocational training can increase women’s earning potential and security. Vocational training programmes are carefully planned with women’s needs and emerging market realities in mind. Programs are developed in partnership with supportive, skilled instructors. We work closely to identify and interface with government training centres and programmes are developed where they are available and appropriate.

B. Capacity Building Training

While our vocational training is designed to impart a specific skill, the capacity building programs develop the whole woman, developing not only skills but also changing the way she thinks, expresses herself, and views the world. Capacity building programs are designed to prepare our members to become leaders in their community as well as to deliver and manage SEWA’s programs and activities.

Our capacity building programmes can roughly be divided into leadership, technical, exposure and dialogue and non-formal education programs.

(a) Leadership Programs

1. Member Education
2. SEWA Movement/Basic Leadership Training
3. Advanced Leadership (Kadam) Training
4. Training of Trainers (TOT)

(b) Technical/Professional Programs

1. Rural Association/Cooperative Training
2. Research Training
3. Communication Training
4. Natural Resources Training
5. Health Care
6. Financial Services

(c) Exposure and Dialogue Programs

(d) Literacy and Non-Formal Education
