Communication both through
print and video media is a critical tool through which SEWA members can dramatically
demonstrate their struggles and experiences. By mastering these skills and technology
themselves, our members have developed the capacity to tell their own stories without
being dependent on intermediaries. Both video and print media has served as a powerful
medium for organizing, training and advocacy.
SEWA has considerable
success in training women in video technology, including a team of 8 full-time video
camera operators and producers and another 20 part-time team members. In 1995, Video SEWA
won international recognition when it received an award for its video titled, "A
Journey from Rs. 7 to Rs. 4 lakh" at the UN Womens Conference at Beijing. SEWA
capacity building programmes also teach members and organizers essay and report writing
skills. Trainings are done by "Anasooya Trust".
